  • What could business leaders do better?

A third of my employed career (9 years) was working in the Northern Hemisphere highlights included Microsoft and Prudential with exceptionally diverse teams. Information was shared openly, ideas germinated in a peer-based environment, without judgement and sometimes the wackier the idea, the better! The best teams were the ones that shared experience, laughed and reflected. I take this spirit into my client work today. Christine Kininmonth from The Growth Faculty asked me; "what frustrates me about our business leaders?" I explained; "the Australian economy has performed well for an extended period, we are proud and sometimes parochial. We have an opportunity to learn from others, those abroad." Watch the closed-caption one-minute video below. The workshops I facilitate freely allow people to be themselves, a sharing of thoughts helping groups of people achieve their potential; they are insightful and practical. There is a 50% discount on an upcoming Melbourne workshop for all female executives, not just tech. Why beyond the tech? Because the workshops are about thinking and people (minimal tech), also there were several requests after my IWD post! #leadership #business #experience #thinking #practical

  • The best career decisions

Here is an extract from an interview with The Growth Faculty’s Christine Kininmonth who asked me about the “best” career decisions. A mentor once explained to me the phases of a career being a period of education, experience and harvesting. How do you know when you can harvest? You can move between industries based on your expertise. If you are thinking of moving for money, maybe reconsider it. Move for the experience and the associated learning in the new role; it will bring you closer to harvesting. In today’s world, your harvest could be a startup that has matured from a side hustle! #author #mentor #coach #sidehustle #career #advisor #speaker #future #startup

  • MIT's research is confronting for Australia

At CIO Edge this week Peter Weill chairman of MIT CISR presented his latest research, and Australia is lagging behind other parts of the world, some key findings; only 5% of Australian business are future ready, compared to 18% globally 62% of Australian business are silos and spaghetti, compared to 53% globally both impact margin, 14 and 11.1 percentage points. This data reminded me of what I have experienced within organisations with leaders rationalising why they don’t need to change; I refer to this as the being in the ”lounge” in the 1-minute Ticker TV interview with Ahron Young below. We need to look beyond our immediate competitors and country for inspiration, MIT offers this. Peter’s research has identified four key ’explosions’ that help - decision rights - new ways of working - organisational surgery - platform mindset. • What do customers value?

What you think your customers may value may not be the case. Here is a one-minute video explaining the stages of determining value. Many organisations think of building a digital platform and creating an ecosystem without truly understanding what their customers value. Value can be determined by; - Analysing what you customers are regularly interacting with - Where they are interacting offers a transaction opportunity - What are your customers prepared to pay for that value? - After working through these steps, then consider creating the platform. #cioedge #author #digital #speaker #thinker #vlog

  • A year of learning's in my startup

My media page is the outcome Focus on what has not gone well, learn and consistently adjust, regular practise of this new skill will make you more proficient Exercise, be active regularly, whatever it is just do it Paid social media advertising is a waste of time and money. There are people who are interested in your daily activities, I share these on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter Leverage resources rather than hire them, there are many great web-based services that are very cost effective. Here is to year two! #startup #learnings #author #blog #pr #clients #relationships

  • Transitions beat transformations?

Over the last few weeks, I have shared several videos about digital transitions. Here is another one minute video explaining the importance of digital transitions, an alternative to a transformation. There are some overwhelming rationales for this; recent McKinsey research established that 85% of digital transformations fail (2018) additionally for many employees the thought of an external party ”helping their organisation” transform is not genuinely welcomed. Employees may say it is, but they don’t mean it, passive resistance is rife people in organisations want their work to have meaning. They seek to be part of something positive for the community as a whole. Any change effort must link to a greater cause. The culmination of these factors leads to the need for a transition within. #transformation #digital #interview #tickertv

  • Are you digitally dumb or numb?

A one-minute video explaining the concepts of ”digitally dumb and numb”. Many organisations continue with non-valuing adding work into their digital business objectives; this is ”digitally dumb” and executives who are not aware of the consequences are ”digitally numb”. Profiling the work is the first step in realising your digital potential. #vlog #author #speaker #coach #mentor #thinker #digital #practical

  • Rationalise the work to realise your potential

A 1-minute video explaining why digital is about people and the importance of rationalisation of their job-related activities.
